Visited Xelha with my wife, grandson, son, daughter and their partners for a day trip. Picked up at our hotel at 7:00 a.m., stopped off at one other hotel to collect more visitors and then travelled to the park – all this took about approximately 1 hour and once in the park our guide explained everything we needed to know.
Most of the family immediately booked the stingray encounter and also the swimming with dolphins experience, once all this was sorted out we entered the park to snorkel. Snorkels, masks, life jackets and flippers are available but we all had our own easybreath masks to wear so only required the jackets which you can collect as you enter the water. There was a good variety of fish available to see, so all good there.
The stingray encounter was excellent, the guide was extremely knowledgeable about the rays and my daughter and son-in-law enjoyed the whole experience immensely.
Then came the dolphin swim which all four of the family thoroughly enjoyed and having already tried the feature before in other countries, they all said this was the best they had every experienced.
Next came the lazy river which was great to lay back and relax on your inflatable ring and drift to the open water, on the way experiencing the cliff jumping, zip wire and tightrope walk.
Overall, the day was a success but far too much for our 4 year old grandson before of the length of the day, the heat and the amount of walking involved in the day.

This was our 2nd visit to the park and it was as enjoyable as the first! The lazy river is so relaxing (although it did get windy and we had to get off before the end!) and there’s also plenty of other attractions to keep you occupied (dolphins, stingrays, manatees, zip wires, light house water slide etc)
Lockers are provided to keep your personal items in, and all food and drink is included in the admission price.
When we got there, we were offered a service where you can activate numerous cameras around the park by way of a wrist band. You can have as many pictures taken throughout the park for a one-off price and then download them on your return home. This was an excellent addition to our last visit as we had over 100 pictures taken in the park and also it means you do not have to carry your own camera around all day.
If we went to Cancun again we would almost definitely visit again, not the cheapest attraction but good value for money overall.

We had an absolute blast in this park! As someone who isn’t so familiar with the ocean (we live in the Midlands…), we were unsure what to expect and whether or not we’d enjoy it. But we soon got used to the snorkelling and by the end of it was following hundreds of colourful fish around their habitat, such a surreal experience.
Whilst the add-on experiences are expensive, we were told at the entrance that we had 50% off one excursion and the photo pass- we wasn’t sure whether this was part of the Tui ‘Xel-Ha Plus’ package that we’d booked or was just an off-peak seasonal discount. Either way, we were thrilled to manage to get to do the dolphin ride for about $65 each. We also got the photo package for the both of us for about $50 too.
The dolphin ride was incredible, such amazing creatures and a definite once in a lifetime experience. The prices for the photos are ludicrous (was quoted $250 for 50 digital photos!) But the staff were almost a bit embarrassed by the prices themselves to be honest, but never fear, with a bit of haggling you can get them a lot cheaper. We managed to get all photos plus two printed copies for $90, which is a bit more reasonable (I’m not the best haggler, you might be able to beat this!) Either way, the dolphin photos are a must to capture this once in a lifetime opportunity.
I’ve never snorkelled before, but the gear is easy to get on/off and get used too. I’d recommend going early in the morning as the ocean is incredibly clear this time of day, and less people are around. There were so many fish of different variety, colours and shapes- we were blown away. We didn’t have a go-pro camera but if you have one, I’d recommend taking it to capture this.
We also did the jungle bike ride which was great fun (watch out for iguanas!) The tubing through the mangroves is a great laugh too, as well as the zip wires, rope bridges etc. The water slide was pretty cool too, I’d recommend going on the inside lane if you prefer speed- the outside lane is a bit tepid.
Food and drink is good, although there’s so much to do in the park that meals tend to be a quick bite.
Would definitely recommend the photo passes, we have about 150 amazing photos from the park doing all the activities that you simply won’t be able to get with a camera/phone.
All in all, our favourite day in Mexico and a once in a lifetime experience, would go back tomorrow if we could!

Our second visit to Xel Ha was as good as the first. Bought tickets direct before we travelled (found a 5% discount code from a US site!) and got a cab from our hotel (GBP Coba) for 650 pesos each way for seven of us which at about £60 worked out a lot cheaper than booking the transfer at £20 each.
Found the lazy river hard work, not much breeze or current so had to try and self-propel which wasn’t easy but the scenery was nice.
Food was decent and plenty of it. We had breakfast at the hotel before we left so we had the park pretty much to ourselves while others ate their breakfast. We then had lunch early while the restaurant was empty and food fresh.
Excellent snorkelling especially in the areas where food is provided to feed the fish.
Well worth a visit.

Transportation was on time. All you really need is your sunscreen and swim attire. They provide towels and lockers. I recommend getting the locker by section Brown or Red because they are the closest to where you can walk to all 3 restaurants and snorkeling. They are multiple entrances to snorkel. Every station has the life jackets. There are 3 ways to get to the river (walking, train or biking) and you can swim through the river or use a floaty. As you get to the end of the river there are a lot of activities, such as Zip-lining, bungee jumping etc. They do have other water activities for an extra cost. FOOD! They have the BEST VARIETY of FOOD! All 3 restaurants have a different variety of food and they are all AMAZING. Also don’t forget to visit the cenotes. You’ll have an amazing time even though if you don’t know how to swim like me.
