We purchased the ticket with transportation included not sure why the shuttle picked us up at 7:30am when the park doesn’t even open until 8:30, restaurants open at 9:30 we arrived so early we had to wait for the park to even open and were asked to keep our masks on at all times, except when in the water. I feel we were brought in early to try and up sell on all the activities not included because everything is extra manatees extra, dolphins extra, sky bikes extra, snuba extra, boat ride extra, photos extra. This is basically the most expensive lazy river ticket ever. After walking around for an hour we left. They were very nice about it and did offer to re-book another day.

A beautiful and perfect place to relax and eat and of course you can have many drinks, the river is what I recommend the most, we had a bit of problems with transportation but from there on out everything was fine.

We would like to thank the team at Xel-Ha for helping make my wife’s dreams of diving a cenote come true. We did the Snuba adventure and will never forget the team that worked with us. It was only 3 people diving that morning so they gave us their undivided attention and took care of us welll. I have included a picture of the inside of the luxury coach we rode to and from Cancun.

We decided to take a chance on this park after talking with the hotel staff at Generations. The Covid practices and policies in place were excellent. We felt very safe and the park was so clean! After coming here we decided to go to Xplor and Xcaret because our experience was so good. We loved the river swim and all of the activities you could enjoy along the river. We all did the cliff jumping and ziplining. By far, our favorite was the snorkeling. It was such a big area and the water is a little cold, but we saw so many fish that we didn’t want to get out. The buffet is not self serve, but the food was really good. This was a day well spent, and we’ll definitely go back.
We wasted some time in the beginning dealing with the lockers, but we then figured out you can take your stuff with you to river’s entrance and they will bag it and you can pick it up at the end and then go to lockers. You can take a train, ride a bike or walk to the entrance, we chose the train because of the heat, but they were sanitizing everything, so if we had the energy, the bikes would have been a good choice.

I wanted to go to one of the ‘X’ parks and after reading multiple comparisons, right or wrong, I cane away with the impression that xcaret was kind of for younger kids and we wanted to be in the water doing stuff. And I really am not into watching a late show (seems to be the big thing at Xcaret) – although I bet I’d like it if I was forced to.
That did we decided on Xel-Ha. I was kind of expecting a lot but also prepared to be disappointed because could it really live up to those pictures? Oh yeah.
The setting: my wife and I are solid swimmers. She’s a little afraid of fish (stay tuned). We have 3 kids (14,12,11) all solid swimmers. Generally good sports about everything I plan. Generally.
Weather was overcast with 50% chance of rain. Actually started pouring the minute we walked thru the gates.
Transportation from Mayakoba: We hired a taxi to take us there and then he basically convinced us to let him just stay there and take us back when we were done. (Total cost for 7:30-4 pm $300 – paying for coveniemce).
Tickets: We bought that all inclusive ticket they sell on TripAdvisor which included everything I thought I’d wanna do. (I got up sold into doing the “Sea Trek” where you put basically a space helmet on and walk on the bottom amongst fish while they feed them. It’s cool. Good desensitizAtion practice).
Photo package: lots of opinions on this. I think if you like taking pictures with your iPhone and you’re good at it then buy the waterproof case that they sell as you walk in. The $80 photo package give you a wristband that you scan at set up spots throughout the park and then collect your photos online. It’s okay. Out of the 96 we took I’d say 10-15 of them are keepers. But good phone camera gives you more freedoM.
Before I get to my Top 5 tips I’ll just say it was worth it. It is clean. They are strict about COVID safety. And unbelievably, the food is as good as people say it is. I hesitate to put this in a category of an “amusement park” because there’s no place in the US that fits this. There are literally giant iguanas just chilling as you walk between activities. We did the river float/snorkel, cliff jumps, zip line into water, sea trek, water slide, stopped 2 separate times to eat (food and drink include in ticket).
Top 5 XelHa tips:
1. Go early. And ignore the weather forecast. I think the overcast/bad forecast actually worked in our favor. For like 20 mins, we were the only ones in the river!
2. Bring a change of clothes and get a locker in the beginning.
3. But the water proof phone case. You’ll have lots of opportunity to use it in this area.
4. Bring mask(s) or face coverings. They are strict.
5. Water shoes or tevas very helpful
