Please do not waste your money on this excursion. It is situated on the beach but going onto the beach is not an option. Everything is additional money with the exception of three activities. This is the worst place to go during COVID, to enter the mark you need a mask but once inside no one wears them. The dolphins are kept in a small body of water. The lazy River water flow is going to opposite way so you can to swim. The food gave me food poisoning. There are not many fish to see during the snorkeling. I would suggest finding an alternative excursion.

While this park is beautiful, it was way too overcrowded with visitors and very lax covid measures being taken. No masks being worn most of the time by anyone we passed. They let you remove on the river but we kept ours on as there was zero distance between our family and others (see pics) who were literally on top of us with their floats. If you’re high risk – avoid the river and get in to enjoy where you feel safe.
We went during Thanksgiving week and the crowds were unbearable. We arrived at 10 and most vip tours were sold out. We stood in line for 45 minutes to book a few and our family has to split up and go alone to some due to different times. Highly recommend booking your non included tours (I.e. manatee swim, snuba in caves, etc) in advance.
The park is spread out so if you do book multiple activities over different times (like us) you may spend most of your time walking back and forth to get to them making it less enjoyable. We ended up parking ourselves in the Mexican restaurant and drank margaritas and beer (included) while our kids ran to their different activities. They were pretty chill about it and served us for over 3 hours without complaining about us being there.
There are handful of beer stations and a bar in the middle of the park which is all included. Lines to get a drink here were about 15 – 20 min long. But, it is Mexico and they’ll give you whatever you want. Just order 2-3 each time you actually make it through a line.
Other than the non included activities, it’s really just a large beach that you float/swim in. Nice clear water. Life vests offered (but not being sanitized at any station and EVERYONE just ignored the signs sanitized/used mixing them all together. Kinda gross.
Of all the parks to enjoy, I would skip this one. Most of the activities are offered at the other parks and if you want to just relax you can do that on the beach at Xcaret or your hotel.
If you do want to go, definitely book activities in advance. The kids high reviews were the cave snuba (very little crowds and in a secluded private pool of the park) and Manatee Swim (small group). Sea Trek was overcrowded but 12 year old liked it. Maybe good for people not comfortable enough to snorkel. We wanted to do the power snorkel where you hold motorized “bikes” to propel you through the water but it was completely sold out. She said they typically sell out in advance of this – FYI.
If you have limited time, I would skip this park and do Xenotes (10 people at a time and felt very safe) or a private tour to Chichen Itza (private – not bus) instead.

We had a great time. Our guide checked us in and we headed straight to the Brown lockers. We were advised to do the lighthouse slide activity first while the crowd was low. It’s very scary but worth the climb. We then made our way over to the beginning of the river and rode bicycles through the path to the River float activity. We had the entire bike path to ourselves there was definitely social distancing and low crowds. The river float was awesome make sure you bring your water camera if you have one. We also bought the picture package which was well worth it, take as many pictures as you can. The snorkeling was great and the food was authentic and delicious! Well worth the trip!
Make sure you keep your snorkel and goggles with you. Don’t worry about life jackets they’re located throughout the park.

This natural water park was beyond my expectations! When you see the initial price it might seem costly, but it’s worth every penny! Initially I wasn’t sure method of transportation to use but I ended up booking with my resort. They resort took care of purchasing our ticket and getting us there before the crowds which was really nice.
Unfortunately it rained about 40% of the time but we still had a great time being in the water. What we enjoyed most was the lazy river. On the lazy river, I would suggest using the provided rafts to get down the river, rather than snorkeling down. There are other areas to snorkel at and that’s where we chose to use the snorkel gear.
It is recommended to wear a mask in the park but only required in the buffets, gift shops and other indoor areas. ALL employees followed mask protocols to keep everyone safe, but they cannot enforce it in all areas of the park.
I would 10/10 recommend this park to all my friends and family who travel to Cancun. It was definitely an experience to remember.
Definitely bring a waterproof protective case with lanyard to put your phone in so you can take some amazing pics and videos.
Muchas gracias a toda la gente que trabaja en Xel Ha por su servicio.

This eco wonder is now a disaster and should be used as evidence as to why reefs need to be protected and why marine mammals should not be in captivity for human entertainment. It’s an algae pond now. All the coral is dead. I visited10 years ago and while I never approved of the dolphinarium I appreciated the concept of being able to swim with the fish in the reef and how it was considered “conservation”. Well turns out that having a reef be an amusement park just ruins the reef. It’s over and this place should be closed to the public and rehabilitated for the sake of the environment. It’s 2020 marine mammals are not prisoners for tourists to ride.
