I enjoyed floating in the natural lazy river, the food selection was good. The park directions and maps were not clear, the park was too crowded. The cost for the park and the hype doesn’t match. Maybe if everything was included dolphins, manatees, sting rays, air bikes, speed boat etc. I can see the price being acceptable. I wouldn’t go back.

Do yourself a favor and skip it! It was crowded and dirty. My husband had gone 20 years ago and loved it, so we went. Things have changed. It used to be a beautiful eco park. When we went last week it smelled and the water was dirty. I was looking forward to an authentic snorkeling trip. I was disappointed. It was difficult to find things, the maps were hard to follow. My daughter and I walked for an hour trying to get to the tower water slides. While snorkeling we were over run by hundreds of rafts floating in the same area. The food was gross, and the place smelled like a sewer. I’m really surprised that it has gotten so many great reviews. My daughter did enjoy the ropes courses and the cliff jumping. We had a much better experience taking a shirking trip a couple of days later from our hotel. It was less expensive and we didn’t have the 3 hour bus ride back to the hotel afterwards. Honestly I felt like we lost a day if our vacation.

We loved xel-ha, the park layout is great, the staff friendly and the food was fantastic. The one thing xel ha needs to hire is a process engineer. Make sure to print two receipts if you get an additional activity like snuba or sea trek. One receipt for transport another at the park for the activity. The worst part of process was when it is your turn to do the extra activity they ask for your paper receipt…. At a swim park. If they fixed that and had better signage I would give them five stars. If you go to Cancun and have interest in aquatic life definitely go. Fun for adults and kids. Also cliff diving was fun and their photo pass is worth it.

We went as a group of 9 (ages 16 – 71) in July 2021. Overall, we really like this place. There were some glitches in our trip which made me give this place 4 instead of 5 stars.

The positive: First, it was a nice mix of theme park & nature. It was clean, well designed, organized, but it still looked like you were just walking around in a natural setting. The park is lovely and the water features were breathtaking. There were lots of bathrooms, showering stations, changing areas, restaurants, posted maps, and the different sections were color coded to help you with navigation. Four members of our group paid $40 extra for our ticket to do the dolphin interaction. That was SOOOO worth the extra $40! We spent 45 minutes in the water with dolphins. We were able to touch them over and over again, during a couple of times they literally swam among us, we got to do the kiss, and much more! Well worth the money! My second favorite activity was the lazy river – which is actually much more than just that. You take a ride on their open van/train to the start of the lazy river. The beginning is a tunnel of mangrove branches and then you are dumped into the huge cove area with cliffs on the side. From that point, you can jump off and on your tubes and take part in several fun activities – cliff jumping, rope obstacles, ziplines, & more. Eventually, you end up back in the main center area of the park and you can choose to get out or keep floating around on your tube (which btw is a nice comfortable seat type float, not just the round donut type). You can snorkel all around (we saw lots of cool things including a ray), swim, splash, etc. all day! There are several restaurants which are all pretty much buffet style places. There’s open bar (included) and we enjoyed several tropical mixed drinks and domestic beers. We never made it to the cenotes section unfortunately, so I can’t review that section. Another positive was that you could rent a wheel chair – we needed one for my 71 year old mother. It was a traditional style wheel chair, so we had to push her, but it really helped because the park is quite large and does require some walking. We were even able to take the chair on the trolley to the beginning of the lazy river and they delivered it back to the end for us along with a bag of our shoes that we’d put in a locked bag (it’s a very organized system). Overall, we didn’t think the park was all that crowded. We got a really close parking spot and were able to move around quite easily.

OK, negatives…the biggest for us was that my 22 year old cut his hand on the waterslide and literally had to get stitches there at the park. I didn’t go down the slide, but my kids said it was really fast and a little rough. They took great care of him – checked him out immediately, took us to the first aid station where there was a doctor who examined him and stitched him up. Second (and this is really more our fault) my middle child (19) lost his phone in the huge cove and we never found it. He had put it in his pocket in one of those plastic waterproof cases and realized within 30 seconds of swimming that it’d fallen out. We searched for over an hour but never found it. So, hold onto your stuff because the place is so large you’re not likely to find lost items. Third, the food was only OK. It was better than most excursion food, but it was more in line with typical cafeteria food. Of course, it’s all you can eat and all included as are drinks, so that’s a big benefit! We were also disappointed because we didn’t know that most of the restaurants closed around 4:30 or 5:00. We had planned to have a snack before we got back on the road, but really couldn’t because the one open restaurant had a huge line to get in. Fourth, it was HOT. Of course, you could get in the water almost anywhere to cool off, but if you’re not in the water it’s hard to find a place to cool off. Fifth, depending on where you’re staying, the drive can be bad. We were in Puerto Morelos. By distance, it should have only taken us about an hour to get there. But, they’re doing major road construction around Playa de Carmen. It literally took us over three hours to get home! Hope they finish the construction soon!

Overall, it was a fun day. Go with lots of energy and ready to get wet! It’s also helpful to look at the activities ahead of time since the park is huge and you don’t want to waste time back tracking.

Five star experience. Love it 100%. We took all the inclusive experience, plus did a couple of paid for experiences with the family. Don’t regret any of them. Did swimming with Dolphins and Snuba Caleta and both were life changing. Being all inclusive is a big plus
