Like a lot of things in Mexico to get the full experience you really will want to pay extra. The entry fee is not a pittance, expect to pay over $400 for a family of 4 which in itself might not see bad considering the beauty of the place.. until you step in the door and realize that a LOT of the side attractions, the ones that really do have the part stand apart from the myriad of activities in the area are actually extra and not included in the ticket in.
Don’t get me wrong, there is still lots to do and given good weather you won’t likely feel like you are missing a lot by not ponying up for the extras but after the wallet shock of getting in the bombardment of “activity X costs extra”, “activity Y costs extra” it can leave a sour taste in your mouth.
The resort itself is excellent, services, food, all very good with a wide variety that should suit most tastes. And thankfully they are happy to have some very spicy food which was a nice treat from the occasionally wimp-ified version of the sauces and foods you get at resorts.
Things worth noting
– well laid out resort, easy to navigate for it’s size
– friendly staff, well staffed though I would say that more than half of the staff are there to take your picture than guide you
– snorkeling was fun but honestly did not see much in the way of fish, perhaps due to time of day, time of year or just luck. enjoyed ourselves but felt that wildlife was rather sparse
– booking through a tour can mean you are picked up at 7am and dropped off at park open yet none of the restaurants are actually open so getting coffee, food early on means you get to wait until 9:30
– lots of places to rest, excellent hammock cities to relax if you’re tired out or just want a break
– bicycle ride through the forest is a fantastic idea, kudos to XelHa on making it a great part of the experience

It was So Beautiful! However My Biggest recommendation is wear comfortable shoe’s/ water shoes!! I unfortunately wore flip flops and got horrible blisters! It’s a lot of walking, but it is sooo worth it ! AMAZING! I don’t even regret the blisters! I would so do it again with the proper foot wear!

We had an absolutely enjoyable time. From snorkeling to water slides to tube riding. So many activities to enjoy. The food was also great. Highly recommend.

When we booked out visit to Xel-ha with the tour agent, it was highly spoken about being many activities and all inclusive for food and drinks. Then we get to the waterpark and find out many of the activities were extra. The extra activities were not cheap either, after paying all the money to get in. We did have fun with the free activities. The lazy river, cliff jumping, a small zip line, 120 foot slide and snorkeling were free. The lazy river is a great way to float along and see the trees and some of the landscape of the area. Be ready to swim as the current almost is to slow. The best part of our day was going down the 120 foot slide. This was a true rush as you sped up to at least 60 MPH and then splash into the wading pool. the climb is a long way up so make sure you are in good shape. I would have done the slide a lot more if I could have continued to climb the steps. The food is awesome and the drinks are strong. The water is very clear for snorkeling and the equipment is thoroughly cleaned, so you know you are receiving a sanitized snorkel.

We loved the lazy river snorkelling but found it consumed most of our day. There simply wasn’t enough time to explore it all.
We also did the bike zip for added cost. Almost every activity we wanted to do was at extra cost
