We were there with our son and his family and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The lazy river is fun. The kids park area was really liked by our grandchildren. Would highly recommend as a couple or for a family

We had been choosing between Xcaret and Xel-Ha and finally opted for Xel-Ha as we’re keen on water. Xcaret was described to us as a Mexican Disneyland whereas Xel-Ha is a water based day out. We had a fantastic time. When you first enter you see the dolphins, whilst I’m not sure I’m keen on seeing them kept in such small pens (I was hoping they get to swim around a bigger pool when they’re not with visitors but this doesn’t seem to be the case) I can’t deny it took my breath away when one left from the water right in front of us, a sight I’ve always wanted to see, I just only wish it had been in the wild. That aside the park is wonderful. It’s vast and there is something for everyone. We struggled to get it all done in 1 day (my advice would be don’t do the half day combined with Tulum as you’ll never get to see everything, you need a whole day). One reviewer commented on the amount of walking, you do clock up the steps but nothing ever feels like a particularly long way as there is always so much to see and do on route. I was however so glad I bought water shoes prior to coming to Mexico as they were brilliant here. It meant I could walk around comfortably with little risk of slipping and then just hop straight in the water without worrying about leaving or locking up my shoes. It also helped in the water as there are rocks to navigate in some places.

The lazy river is nice and relaxing, I’d recommend both taking the snorkeling route and the inner tube route. Going through the mangroves is great.

The food at the restaurant was delicious and there are lots of self service drink points.

I bought a waterproof pouch for my phone before I came and it worked well. I got some good pictures. We did use our wrist bands at all of the photo stops but were undecided on the photo package at the time. When you go up the tower you can’t take your own camera which is just a ploy so they make you buy their pictures. It worked as in the last ten minutes before the bus I panicked and purchased the photo package. It’s all digital so for about £50 you get access to a link where you can download every picture you’ve taken in the day. I knew I was being ripped off but I did it anyway. You have to wait 24 hours before you can access your pictures so fingers crossed it was worth it. There are stops around the park where you can see the pictures already taken but they are small samples that you can’t view adequately. Only time will tell if I made the right decision but I’m a sucker for these things and I’m on my honeymoon so I wanted the pictures as a souvenir. I must admit the concept is good, it means you don’t have to carry an equipment around and if you’re in a large group then the price does decrease.

Overall we had a fantastic day. It has that magic about it and as I always say when I’m travelling is this something I could do at home (no) then I want to make the most of the experience. That we did. We don’t have children but it doesn’t strike me as the sort of place for young children. There’s a play park but not much else they can do. I would say 7yrs plus as any younger I doubt they’ll get much out of it.

    Top tips:
*Go for a whole day, not a half
*Take a waterproof pouch for your phone if you don’t want to purchase the photo package
*Where water shoes so you can walk around the site easily (it’s a big place) and get in and out of the water as you please
*Get there early to make the most of the day (we barely had chance to stop and could easily have filled several more hours)

We were staying in Playacar and opted for the ADO bus from Playa Del Carmen which is free when you purchase the entrance ticket with them. Bus left at 8.30am getting us in the gates by 9.30 and picked us up at 6pm when the park closes. Nice coach which toilet onboard. Seemed like an easy option and no hotel drop offs to delay us!

Oh final thing, go when it’s sunny. It lights up the water and the whole place glows beautifully 🙂

Very expensive for what was there but if you like to swim with dolphins it was ideal. The whole park covers a very large area. Wear comfortable footwear. Plenty of bars and restraunts. Shops plentiful. Lots of activities from swimming with Dolphins. Lazy river. Zip lining. Helter skelter ride etc. Definately a full day of fun.

  4. I & K Maldonado!

All inclusive(food and drinks) water park mainly for snorkeling and river floating. It also include alcoholic beverages, they have other packages if you want to purchase to swim with dolphins, manatees.

Fabulous day out at an environmentally friendly water park. Food and drink included in the entrance fee. Very pleasantly surprised at the quality and choice of food. Loved the lazy river with your own floating chair, very relaxing. Snorkelling was good but I would take my own snorkel if visiting again as the free one included was very basic. Plenty to keep you occupied all day. Climbed the lighthouse and came down the fast water slide I have ever been on! Glad I had a swimsuit on rather than bikini! Water shoes are a must and buy before going as they are very expensive to buy at the park.

Would have preferred to see the dolphins and manatees in larger enclosures.

Photo package was probably good value if you were a larger group (4 or more) who made sure you all scanned your wristbands at every photo opportunity. Wish we had looked into this before visiting. Take a GoPro if you have one as it will get plenty of use.
