Our teens and young adults enjoyed Xel ha. They liked the slide, zip line into the water and jumping off the cliff. I love to snorkel but after a couple times out I was bored and felt like there wasn’t much to see. Food was good at the restaurants.

Just back from my 3rd time at Xel Ha Park
Sooooooo much fun in the sun.
The new Gigantic Water Slide was like never ending
Wow !!!!!!!
Snorkeled down the lazy river twice & jumped off the cliff the second time.
Had an underwater camera & got great pics of fish & stingrays. Wasnt overwhelmingly busy so easy to get food & drinks.
I recommend taking your own pics as purchasing them at the end is quite pricey ( $80 for 3 people )
& probably 20 pics between us !!!!!!
LOVE this place !!!!!

I originally visited Xel-Ha 25 years ago when it was just a place to snorkel with the local residents. WOW!!! Big changes since then!! Be sure to read up on all the activities and check a map of the property BEFORE you go to familiarize yourself with everything to do.
This is now a major tourist attraction and it has been beautifully designed and caters to your every need from great locker/changing/shower areas to buffet restaurants, beautiful tubing, snorkeling and a huge water tube slide all in pristine waters where the fresh river waters meet the salt waters of the Caribbean.
Skip the International restaurant and go directly to the Mexican Buffet. Wonderful fresh local cuisine and the drinks are included so have the bartender make you a fresh Margarita and make sure to slip him a tip!
Go to the very start of the river and tube through the mangroves FIRST. It is magical and not to be missed. The open area after the mangroves are pristine for snorkeling.
Some things to consider:
We were here in January and it was busy BUT I can only imagine what it is like on a busy weekend in high season!!! Very international group of people enjoying this beautiful spot.
If you want to really enjoy your day arrive early and plan to spend the ENTIRE day here and if you are staying relatively near consider a 2 day pass.
Plan to eat lunch as the buffets are all you can eat (remember Mexican) and drinks are included.
Don’t miss the mangrove tubing and do it first before it gets busy so you can take in the magic of floating down a winding narrow river completely surrounded by the mangroves.
Snorkeling has suffered since it was a tiny little place off a two land highway 25 years ago. We saw very few fish but the water was clean and lovely and we just enjoyed swimming. If you go up to the bridge as it enters the Caribbean you will see many fish in the sand of the bridge. It is a floating bridge and you can’t swim under it but up close you will see some great varieties and sizes of fish and nobody was there!
There are many places to enter and exit the water and they are designed for easy access with wide steps coming down into the water.
Life jackets MUST be worn and are all provided as is ALL snorkel gear and tubes.
If you are on a cruise and it is a day trip you might want to reconsider your visit. By the time we left the ship on Cozumel, took the Fast Ferry, caught our bus, drove for 30 minutes, got tickets and tubes/snorkel gear/lockers it was already 11:00am! We needed to leave by 2:30 to get back to Cozumel for a 4:30 ship departure and 3.5 hours will not give you enough time to really enjoy the day. 🙁
BUT we plan to take a week at one of the great resorts along the coast south of Cancun and come back here again. GREAT for families and kids old enough to swim and who love the water. Not to be missed!

I had no idea that there were so many things included: towels, food, drinks, lockers, snorkel equipment. I only found out on the bus there. I wouldn’t have carried so many things from the hotel.
I did know that a number of activities were not included and we had to pay more (expected). We did the stingray experience and it was the highlight of our trip (with an 8 year old). I also did the sea trek (not sure it was worth, but it was interesting), my son freaked out and wouldn’t try it (no refunds).
Would definitely go again and hopefully my son will want to do the lazy river next time.

Second time there and never a let down. Water was warm on the lazy river and many activities to do. Will do again
