Very impressed with Xel-Ha water park. Very clean and lots of different fish to see in the bay. The grounds were impeccable, like Disneyland and the service was all very nice and helpful. Food was OK, nothing to write home about; but plentiful with a lot of variety. Drinks were light on alcohol as you would expect but they will serve you as much as you want.
Wife did the dolphin experience for $50 and had a great time. The picture pricing is very high($40-170USD) but when she was only going to buy one they gave her all of them for $50. Still very high but tells me that you should bargain for whatever you want.
Would highly recommend and go again.
Also, we took the ADO bus from Playa del Carmen for $9 round trip and purchased tickets online with a coupon for $80/each for.the Park. Great thing about the ADO bus is it is very clean, new, and comfortable, has a bathroom and only makes a few stops (takes 1hr 5 min). Typically beats the tourist buses which stop at a lot of hotels along the way.

We had a great day at the park. Didn’t pay for any of the extras but still found more than enough to do. We paid the extra for the shuttle which was convenient but probably overpriced. You can rent a car for pretty cheap, parking is free and it’s very easy to find as it has it’s own exit from the freeway. They stopped at our hotel and picked up three couples and we drove directly to the park. We were the first of two stops on the return trip as well so that was nice.
We got to the park about 9 and no one was there so we walked to the back to the lazy river. We were alone the river for about a half hour before people started to catch up to us. It’s a very slow float but we liked that. There are activities along the river so you can pull over and enjoy those. The food was really good. Much better than I expected, at least as good as the food at our hotel. The drinks were also really good.
The white waterslide is very fast. In the time we watched people come out of the bottom, half of them were not excited about their ride. I took the blue and even that one was pretty quick.
The rope swing is very weak, and the cave was more of an alcove.
We did a lot of snorkeling and saw plenty of fish, just stay near the fish flags and the rocks. Not a lot going on in the open water areas where there is only sand. The restaurants close at 530 so about 445 or 500 the lines get really long. We got out of the water and changed about 4so that we could get something to eat before leaving. That worked well for us.
Overall it was a great time and we’ve talked about taking our kids down to Playa with us and visiting Xel Ha with them.

the lazy river, the snorkelling, watching the animals and just wandering/swimming are all great. Our kids were too small to be able to do the waterslide, cliff jumping and such, but they still had a blast.
Even though it was very busy, you could always find a place to do something without a wait.

OK, right off, I like water slides and this one is impressive for height and duration of sliding. It was pretty long, and after a while of feeling very submerged, you splash down at the end feeling like you just had an enema by the water gods (ha ha ha).
The lazy river here is awesome. Life jackets and inner tubes made everyone feel safe (even the seniors and younger kids). Along the way, you can do some cliff jumping (not that high), and zip line into water. That was fun. Snorkel, and go through the mangroves. The river takes you right to a restaurant at the end and a train brings you to the beginning again if you wish.
Buffet food was good.
Lots of lockers, clean rest rooms, etc.
Great park

We went here also in 2001, so compared to 18 years ago it has become very toeristic. Still a good place to snorkel, but not many fish. The park also got a lot bigger with ziplines and a lazy river. Food and drinks are included. The food in Xplor was better and more various.
No need to bring towels, there are plenty of towels available in the park. The big tower has a lot of rules. You can’t use and actioncam at the tower. Lifevest are mandatory at everything, which is a bit overdone for average to good swimmers.
I would not go back to Xel-Ha if i was here again.
