NOT all inclusive. Not even close. Yes, it’s a beautiful setting. But it frustrated us to no end that every single thing that was fun to do costs extra; a LOT extra. Adrenalina-$70 ea. Snuba-$50 ea. Sea Trek $65 ea. It cost my family of 3 about $300 to get in. Had we done just those three activities, that figure soars to over $850. Had we done any of the other 9 activities that cost extra, we would have easily spent over $1000. Not even Disney World gets that much. If you want actual all inclusive go to Xplor (best park) or Xavage (2nd best). No hidden costs and waaaaaayyyy better. Xel-ha needs to fix this nonsense. It ruined our day.

My husband and I visited Xel-Ha about 15 years ago and were so excited to be bringing our children this time. While Xel-Ha is still beautiful and a great place to spend the day, we were really disappointed in the snorkeling. When we went 15 years ago we saw hundreds and hundred of colorful fish. This time, I bet we saw a total of 70 fish the entire day. And it was hard to see the colors of the fish because the water has an oily film from sunscreen. It has really lost some of its beauty.
We did see some fish, including one really HUGE fish that freaked us out a little, but was fun. We saw several sting rays at the bottom, and lots of blue and yellow fish. It just wasn’t as amazing snorkeling as it was in the past.

Expected some crowds but this was just awful. Hugely expensive for what you get. Even though this was advertised as all inclusive (and can’t bring your own food in) people were lined up for hours waiting for food. Drinks line ups were not much better. After waiting in the hot sun for over an hour for the food, we gave up. All we ate or drank all day was pop and water and by 5 pm even that had ran out! If they spent half as much effort on a good experience rather than attempting to upsell to the numerous not included activities, this might be decent. If you aren’t going to offer a reasonable opportunity to eat the allegedly included food, at least allow people to bring their own. A total disappointment and would not recommend this place to anyone.

If you love snorkeling, this is a must do on your list for Cancun. I’m literally shocked at the negative reviews for Xel-Ha! Yes, there are additional things you can purchase, but the all inclusive activities had us busy from open until close! Cliff jumping, ropes courses, and ziplines all over the ocean! Biking to a river swim/float! Cave swimming, rope swing into a cenote, nature paths where you see monkeys, iguanas, etc in their natural habitat (no cages or enclosures)! All you can eat and drink (including booze)! A massive waterslide that is sooooo fun! Snorkeling in the ocean in a HUGE area where you can see al kinds of fish including schools of parrot fish, find star fish and conch, and have a great time discovering!
