We enjoyed all of the activities, but specifically loved the beauty of the park. We could tell that the staff took great care for the plants and animals. Our only issues were that the signage wasn’t extremely clear to us as Americans and we found the lack of ability to get water NOT from a drinking fountain concerning. We understand that there are no water bottles there, but the fountain pop machine did not have water hooked up to the water spouts and we never found water elsewhere. It was extremely hot for us and we really needed water but we were hesitant to drink from a drinking fountain due to covid. We wanted to use cups and can’t do that with a tiny stream from a fountain.

My friend and I were super excited to go to Xel-Há, all we knew was it was a natural waterpark where we could snorkel, zip line, cliff jump, and get free drinks/food all day! What we didn’t realise until we got there is that they have Dolphins, Manatees and Sting-Rays on site which is a real shame to see. I thought we were past caging animals for profit. We stayed clear of these activities (you pay extra to interact with these animals) and definitely enjoyed the rest of the park. A highlight was floating through the mangroves and the snorkelling! Walking through the jungle walk you get to see so many iguanas too which is cool.

The food is great and varied. My friend and I are vegan, and although it meant we couldn’t eat a lot of the delicious food on offer we definitely got by okay. There was much better vegan food at lunch and dinner than there was for breakfast. Try the Mexican restaurant if you are vegan as they have much more on offer. It’s definitely the quieter of the three restaurants too. I would recommend queueing for breakfast early, eating a light lunch around 12 and then dinner at 3. Any other time and there were crazy long queues or even just no availability at all.

Make sure to bring reef friendly sun cream and they take away any other sun cream from you to collect at the end of the day. They do give out two little sachets of their sun cream but it’s not enough for the whole day. You can either buy a bottle elsewhere before arriving or they have their own suncream on site for purchase. Though there are a lot of design flaws in their bottle (both of ours broke within a day) and it’s not super spreadable. But please do get reef friendly sun cream as when in the water you are amongst so many fish and plants.

Our transport to and from Xel-Há was super easy, Alfredo picked us up and had great energy and banter. The bus was a little late by around 5-10 minutes but it didn’t matter because we got to the park so early anyway. We were given clear instructions for pick up to take us back. All a very smooth process.

The TL;DR for this review is that it’s expensive but my extremely picky and whiny kids actually smiled and enjoyed themselves.

It’s all good stuff. We checked all the default things off our list, we did the river, played on ropes, slid down zip lines, snorkeled in the inlet, did the lighthouse slide, etc. We also ended up doing a couple of extra things (SNUBA & the thing with the diving helmets). They were all fun. We had lunch and breakfast and thr food was good as well.

If I were looking at every activity, amenity, or service individually, I’d say that I have done or seen better; I’ve had better food, I’ve done a better river float, and I’ve had better snorkling. BUT… I don’t know of anywhere that has a good version of all of those things in one place.

If you’re not sure what this place is, think of it like a theme park rather than an outdoor “excursion” and you’ll know what to expect. In stead of mechanical rides you’ve got bodies of water, slides, and rope stuff. As theme parks go, it’s not on the level of a Disneyland but more like a Legoland. That’s not to say it’s bad. In fact, everything is pretty good. It’s all well planned out, clean, and user friendly, it’s just not as polished and uniform as a Disney.

I’ve read reviews about the wait for food. Our day was a Wednesday during spring break and it wasn’t that bad. We maybe waited 20 minutes or so but you’d wait that long as any theme park and still have to pay for your food (here it’s included).

For the “big” guys: there are weight limits on stuff like the lighthouse slides and some of the zip lines but it’s not a surprise. They disclose the limits on their web page.

Finally… The app is pretty useless but there are maps everywhere and most of the staff are bilingual.

I last came to Xel-Ha 15 years ago and it has gotten better. If you like water activities then this is the place for you. You can swim with the dolphins, feed the manatees, take what could be the tallest waterslide in Mexico, snorkel, snuba, zipline into the water, cliff jump, tour the park on a bicycle and take an inner tube down a lazy river – OR you can also just relax on a lounge chair.

The only problem is many of the aforementioned activities are available for extra charges above the park’s admission price. The cost for each extra activity varied from $25 US to $100 US. As a result, be prepared to spend triple the admission price in the end if you want the “full experience”.

Had a great day with my daughter 13 & 15. Very well laid out, lots of walking and swimming. You should be in moderate physical condition. Lots of stairs for the water slides.
