My wife and I hit the park on Tuesday and we were not disappointed. Pricey if you just look at the included activites which are basically swimming, swimming and some more swimming, but when you add in all the food and drink it is actually not a bad price at all. Be prepared to pay for extras. The ease of the cameras and your specific barcode makes it too tempting to not spend the $30 per person to get the unlimited pictures. Actually doing this review before checking them out, so hope all is well. Also, all of the unique activities are extra. We did the snuba walk at around another $65 per. Cool, but not as cool as I’d hoped for. Water wasn’t too clear and you’re basically in and out. But at least I can now say I’ve tried it. Food was decent and plentiful. Drinks were good and accessible, and they have a full bar included. Basically a spring run that leads to a cove of brackish water. Snorkel or tube down the run to a river. Cliff jump spots along the way. Some zip lines a littel further down. Nothing super huge, but still fun. Snorkel equipment provided and you can spend hours in the cove. Several rocky areas with a lot of fish. There were also manatee and sting ray encounters, but we skipped those. Yep, they are extra $. Good place for a family to spend a full day out with controlled expenses if you skip all the extra things.

I had been here in 1994, when Xel Ha was a sleepy little place to snorkel. Now it remains pristine, yet developed. What care went into its design! Paths are nestled in the woods, playground area too is shaded. It’s convenient to find lifejackets when and where you need them. When you don’t, hang them up and grab another later. Ride the tubes down the river? You collect your personal items at the terminus in the bag they provide. Rope course and zip lines are discreetly placed to be accessible, but not the focal point.
There are no single use plastics, no paper plates, no straws. The lagoon stays clean! If you want a drink of cold water, you can have it with ice. When you’re done, toss the used plastic tumbler into a bin for washing and re-use. Meals (included) are an excellent selection of Mexican foods. The silverware is real, the napkins are fabric. Want a snack later, or breakfast? That’s included too.
At the end of the day when everyone streamed out of the park, we realized there were a lot of people there. The lines were never long (except for the lighthouse water slide). Heads up: the waterslide has a churning, disorienting splash landing in the salt water. Those with back issues might choose not to ride, but do walk up for the view (spectacular).
This place is a rare spot of accessible beauty and adventure. Wow!

This is our second time here and I think it was even better than the first. There are a ton of things to do here and this time they had the large circular water slide which was awesome. Walking around the big lagoon and doing all the activities is such a great way to spend the day. The kids loved the jungle gym and the small slides, and everyone had a blast with the zip lines and the adventure crossings. Then on to the cliff jumps which are a lot of fun, and then the lazy river through the mangrove and into the massive lagoon. After a delicious all included lunch, we snorkeled for about 45 minutes to the little rock outcroppings and saw awesome fish and great places to snorkel.

My tip is to try to go early and get there before the masses get into the park, that way you will have more time in the morning to yourself. Do the circular slide first if you can, as we heard a bit later the wait can be long. we had maybe a 10 minute wait.

This was a third trip to Mexico and previously we have zip lined at Selvetica (amazing) and Xplor (also amazing). We had heard good things about Xel-ha and decided to try something different. We were told to start at the lazy river so that is what we did. Also they say you take a tram (train) to the start of the river…don’t be deceived, the walk to get to the train is nearly as long as the train ride itself. I didn’t mind but my mother in law went with us and had a hard time w/ the length of the walk. The river is heavy on the “lazy.” My expectation is that there would be some sort of current so that we would leisurely float from the start to the end point. That couldn’t have been farther from what actually occurred. There is absolutely no current and it was so packed. It was impossible to stay together as a group and enjoy the float. From start to finish it took 2 hours and that is with us paddling a good portion of the way because we were so sick and tired of floating and going no where. Had we just floated and not kicked our feet or paddled with our hands it would have taken twice that long. About 1/2 way through there are 3 or 4 different cliff jumps and 3 different zip lines that you can get off your tube and go do. These were all fun however we were so tired after all of that and the end was still no where in sight. After we finally completed the “float” we were so tired we didn’t have the energy to do anything the rest of the day. The food was OK which was a disappointment as the food at both Selvetica and Xplor was amazing! My husband and kids climbed the stairs to do the big spiral slide and they enjoyed that. The kids also snorkeled and seemed to really enjoy it but I will tell you that this is definitely not the place to snorkel if you are really into snorkeling. I hung out with them and hardly saw any fish. They are 7 and 9 so their expectations weren’t nearly as high as mine. In retrospect I wish we would have skipped the river float and swam in the cenotes and just walked to do the cliff jumps and zip lines. I think we would have found it more enjoyable and less exhausting. Also, there is a pretty cool kids park that has an obstacle like course in it for the little ones. My kids really enjoyed this. At the end of the day if you are trying to decide between Xplor and Xel-ha go to Xplor!
