It’s so sad how these parks lie to us saying they are “eco-friendly”, when this park’s existence itself harms the whole ecosystem.
I saw park workers hitting a caged cockatoo with a stick (then quickly stopping when they saw us watching). Saw scuba divers push and pull stingrays for people’s viewing pleasure, when they’re supposed to be free and in the wild. The saddest were the dolphins, enclosed in small swimming spaces. People wearing non-natural sunblock, even when asked not to wear it because it harms the reef.
I left this experience feeling so sad 🙁

We’ve just been to Xel-Ha and my honest opinion is that although it’s got some good parts it’s very expensive for what you actually get. I was told that there was things to do even for non swimmers but unless you’re confident in water this isn’t true as 95% of the park activities are water based where you can’t stand up or necessarily see the bottom.
The good points:
– The park itself is very pretty
– Lots of water activities which if you love swimming and are confident then you will enjoy
– Lots of extras that you can do at an extra cost
– The spa and massage are well worth a visit
The could be better:
– Once you’ve been around it once there is very little left to do without spending money. Half a day is more than enough, 10am to 6pm was far too long
– The lazy river is exactly that… LAZY! It’s got no current so you’re effectively just bobbing around the water on a float trying to kick your way around
– The dolphins appear to be happy but in very small enclosures and there are better places in the area to swim with them. Same with the manatees
If all you want is a day of swimming then it’s definitely a good day out but definitely do your research first!

This was our second visit to Xel-Ha but it had been over 10 years since our previous visit. On our first trip we booked the dolphin encounter and enjoyed it but it took up quite a bit of our day so we did not book this time.
We began our visit with the river float. This begins in a mangrove forest and then continues down the river into the lagoon. There are lots of activities available along the river including the leap of courage off of a small cliff, ropes courses, and small zip lines. Our two boys (8 & 12) especially liked this part of the day. They would have likely stayed out there all day.
We then took our snorkel gear and snorkeled around the main lagoon. There are lots of fish if you take the time to find them. We saw some especially large ones hiding out underneath the “tequila bridge”. We also saw three very large stingrays which were heading out back out towards the ocean from the stingray encounter. Very cool.
We did take in the snuba activity which is basically group scuba where you are tethered to an air tank on the surface. I am a certified diver but this is a good opportunity to see if scuba is for you. My boys both loved it but my wife not so much!
The food is fine and it is great to be able to get a cold corona or a margarita for no additional charge. This is something to keep in mind when planning your day since all food and drink are included in the admission price.
Loved Xel-Ha and hopefully it won’t be a decade before we return again!

This was a nice park. Fun water activities. Beautiful view from the top of the tower waterslide. Conquer your fear and do the “Cliff of Courage”. Liked that food/drinks were included.
BUT…..it seems like 1/2 the activities in the park are optional and an extra charge. And for the life of me I can’t understand why that zip bike is not included in the park. I can sort of understand the extra charge for the dolphin swim but include the basic encounter.

We visited Xelha at the beginning of June 2019.
This was our fifth time to visit there.
We bought 2 X-parks package (Xplor and Xelha tours /232 USD per person) from
Best Day Travel located at our hotel (Dreams Sands).
Our schedule was like the following;
7:00 The bus picked us up at our hotel. (Dreams Sands Cancun)
We had to wait for many people to get in the bus at other hotels. So it took a long time for our bus to reach the gathering point.
8:10 Arrived at gathering point (toilet time)
8:30 Left the gathering point for Xelha
10:00 Arrived at Xelha
Great news! We don’t need to pay 20 USD deposit to rent fins any more!
Skipped breakfast as the main restaurant looked really busy.
Put everything in the locker. ( Locker near the main restaurant is most convenient.)
First, we tried the long water slide from the lighthouse.
(You cannot wear shoes nor bring water camera to the lighthouse. You can put all your staff in the locker near the tower.)
The view from the tower was fantastic, but slide was nothing special. If you don’t have enough time, you may not need to try it.
Crossed the floating bridge. (I used to see so many fish from the floating bridge, but not at all this time.)
Checked various cenotes
12:00-13:00 floating in an inner tube to go down the river. ( Very busy, but beautiful)
Tried some zip lines on our way. ( Lots of fun)
13:15 Lunch at Mexican restaurant
I had meatball, ground beef and potato, chicken stew, feef stew, tortilla soup, lime soup, guacamole and mixed juice using strawberry and orange juice. I also tried mixed juice using strawberry and mango juice.
Almost everything I tried was pretty good, especially meatball, tortilla soup and mixed juice.
Last time I didn’t like anything I had at Xelha, but I liked most this time. It seems food at X parks have improved a lot.
14:00-14:40 Took a rest in the hammock
14:50-15:40Tried snorkeling
A big disappointment. The water was not so clear and almost no fish.
I used to like swimming in Xelha, but no more.
Said hello to manatees. ( They didn’t move even a little bit. )
15:50-16:00 Rode a bicycle to go to the begging of the river. Very refreshing!16:05-17:00 Floating in a tube in the river again. (Not busy at all. The best time to do it!)
We felt like we were alone in a mangrove forest. Very quiet and peaceful. And the water in the upstream river was crystal clear.
17:00 Took a shower and change the clothes
18:07 Left the Xelha
20:00 Arrived at our hotel.
Because of Sargasso, some brown water came to Xelha, too. ( Only near the floating bridge, though.) And the water in the downstream of river ( lagoon area) was not so clear ( visibility was 1 meter or so) and we couldn’t find many fish. So we didn’t enjoy snorkeling this time.
However the quality of food has been improved and the water at the upstream river was crystal clear and floating in a tube or doing zip lines were quite fun. Also sleeping in the hammock after lunch was quite nice, too.
So to us, Xelha was still appealing.
However since snorkeling was not so fun comparing to before, we now prefer Coba and Xelha or Tulum and Xelha tour, instead of only Xelha tour.
We tried Xaret twice, but we prefer Xelha. (More relaxing and lots of water activities at Xelha)
