The parc itself is located in a nice environment but it is not like a natural preserved area, it is fully adapted to tourists who are floating and roasting on their inner tubes, deriving thanks to the current… The fact that it is all inclusive, including alcoholic beverages, does not help.
North American tourists seem to enjoy. Kids, including ours, definitely enjoyed it.
But that’s not the way we like to spend a day in the nature.
So definitely to be considered as a. Aqua Park, not a “nature preserved area”

If you like snorkeling and safe water activities for young children, this is it. Food are included for breakfast , lunch and even dinner ( at 6pm) when they close. Alcohol drinks are included in tickets prices.
I shop around for tickets on other websites for price and get a better deal than the one my resort offer. So book online if you can. We took a taxi to the park since it is cheaper that way. We stayed at grand Bahia principe and it costs around 20 US dollars one way trip to Xel-Ha park.

My mom and I decided to visit Xel Ha during our recent visit to Playa Del Carmen after a few people highly recommended it. We booked through Expedia and received a good discount. It exceeded our expectations. The grounds are exceptionally beautiful and there is so much to do. We loved riding the Zip-bike, tubing in the lazy river (the best I’ve ever experienced), snorkeling, lounging at the “beach,” and napping in the hammocks! The water was so beautiful and relaxing. We also enjoyed the all inclusive element, and were very satisfied with the food and drinks. They offer a great variety of foods! The only recommendation I have is that the park hire more staff to manage the attractions and hire more lifeguards. We (and several other guests) had to help a family whose tube turned over on their two small children! Thank God they survived but It was frightening and sadly no staff member even noticed that it happened. There just weren’t enough people working on the grounds.
Other than that I loved Xel Ha!!!

Did the full package where we swam with dolphins, snorkled with them and went under water to watch them swim and do tricks. This was our first time swimming with dolphins and it was absolutely amazing. You got plenty of time petting them, lots of photo opportunities and get to be pushed along the pools by them. The people working with them are knowledgeable and friendly. We had those activities booked at various times of the day but in our free time we had great fun going down the slides (white one is very fast and the blue one is slower) using the ziplines, going down the lazy river and snorkelling. We also jumped off a cliff and made the most of the buffet style restaurant and the bars. There are plenty of places to relax with great views. Use of the lockers and snorkelling equipment is free (unless mask or key is lost.) The grounds and the wildlife here are beautiful.
A few minor limitations would be that it’s asked you wear biodegradable suncream and have a good wash before swimming with the dolphins. As my suncream washed off I did burn slightly, however a lot of people were going round the park in rash vests which I think was a good idea.
The floors of the changing areas and toilets get incredibly slippery. I did have flip flops on however, and saw lots of people wearing water shoes so I think they’re the safer option.
If you do the dolphin trek be aware the mask is very heavy and can partly fill with water quite easily, which is a scary experience when you’re 16 feet deep.
It was a surreal experience and would definitely return on my next trip to Mexico!

Great park to snorkel and swim throughout the river as it joins the ocean. Large super slide that was average speed, nothing fast or extra exciting. I would pay the extra money and go visit XPLOR or XCARET. Food buffets were great, all you can eat and drink including alcohol.
