We did the full day tour from Playa Del Carmen. It was fun and exhausting. We literally swam about a mile throughout the day. Great snorkeling and just swimming in general. It was nice to be able to explore at your own pace but here were lots of activities throughout including a huge slide that’s tons of fun. The food was just ok but you can eat and drink all day long.

We booked our trip to Xel-ha with Tui and everything went smoothly.
We bought the photo package for $99 which I highly recommend as we all had great fun finding and trying all the selfie spots around the park taking multiple images at each one and have some lovely photos as a result.
Water shoes are a must. We also took our own full face snorkels which we used and saw some lovely fish and a sting ray.
We didn’t pay or do any of the extra experiences (like the dolphin swim etc) as we have done these before elsewhere and mainly wanted to experience the snorkelling. I have to admit that the dolphin area didn’t look very nice which is another reason that I didn’t want to support it by paying extra.
it was great to see lots of wildlife in it’s natural habitat. We all thoroughly enjoyed our day at Xel-Ha

Our family of four just came back from a 5 night stay in the Rivera Maya. Our day a Xel-Ha was a definite favorite!

We are a family of four and visited this unique adventure park on a weekday in August.
PROS: The overall natural beauty of the inlet and rocky shorelines is so unique and loaded with reef fish and other life. The fact that you get to swim, snorkel throughout this area, jump off cliffs, jump in a cenote, swim in a sea cave, see thousands of fish, water slide into the ocean, do a zip-line and land in the water is simply an amazing experience. Maybe this place isn’t for everybody, but we had a blast! Tons of interesting geology, botany, biology to learn about during your stay. The people-watching is unmatched.
Food and drinks are included with admission at one of three central restaurants. We anticipated below average concession stand food, but the Mexican buffet we had was probably the best meal we had during our 8 days in Mexico. It was so nice not having to shell out extra $$$ to stay hydrated. We really didn’t eat much because of all the activities. Mixed drinks and beer are included too. Crazy. With rides, food and drink included, the ~$80 price per person was a really good deal.
The crowds were tolerable and overall the longest line was 15-20 minutes for the lighthouse slide. Some of the areas are pretty far apart from each other, so even with short lines we didn’t have enough time to see the whole park within one day. I suppose that could be a ‘con’ but point is you should not get bored!
CONS: We booked the trip thru our hotel in Cancun. We were provided with ‘Free’ transportation by the Xcaret corporation which ended up being a 3+ hour trip from our hotel. We then had to drive into Cancun central (opposite direction) and then transfer buses. The rest of the way we were forced to watch these awful promotional videos by a ‘tour guide’ for other Xcaret attractions and additional add-ons at Xel-Ha (dolphins, manatees, sting rays, boat rides). The video and audio quality was horrendous. We arrived 1 hr and 45 minutes after the park opened, so that part was frustrating. For comparison, it only took 1 hr 45 minutes to get home.
Overall, the park seems to be compassionate towards the environment and we read that they have received several awards for their efforts. However, the manatee and dolphin natural pool enclosures seem to be far too small and shallow for these large and intelligent animals. We did not participate in either of these activities, but you could walk right past these areas to watch the shows. At one point we saw a dolphin show with at least 50 humans per 1 dolphin within a pool smaller than the one at your local city park.
I’m not sure why you would add on additional activities anyway. There is more than enough to do and you’re already shelling out $80-$100 per person per day to do the other stuff. Without the awful bus ride on the way there, and without the dolphin shows – this place is a five star attraction.

Where to start. We booked this trip with our TUI rep. It was a wonderful day. Bus picked us up on time at our hotel. We went with a couple we met on holiday. The water park was expensive but well worth the money. We paid around £250 for myself and husband. All food and drinks was included and snorkels for swimming with the fish. We rode the bicycles up to the start of the lazy river. You have a wrist band on which you scan at various locations to take your photos. I wore mine on my left wrist which was a bit awkward and I missed out on taking some great photos. We didn’t swim with the dolphins but our first time snorkelling and seeing the fish swimming up close was brilliant. There is plenty of lockers to leave your belongings, changing rooms got very busy near park closing time. We paid extra to go on the zip bikes which we got at half price through tui. A bit scary but enjoyable. We also went on the zip wires which was great fun. Lots of things to do loads to eat and drink and beautiful weather. I would definitely recommend this trip.
