we had a great time! we went a family bunch, including grandma (70 years old)! food is great, attractions are beautiful, the slides are great! I really recommend to do this first in order to avoid longer queues. Snorkeling is fantastic!

We loved visiting Xel-Ha, as the park opened we arrived as a family and headed off to find a locker to deposit our stuff and then headed for breakfast.
Unlike the Xcaret which we had visited previously all food and drink was included. The meals were buffet types which fussy eaters like our kids could easily find something to enjoy.
We headed away from the centre and walked to the start of the “River” to do the snorkel and then the floats.
This was GREAT fun, the kids loved going through the Mangroves and then into the open inlet.
We would have given it a full 5 stars but the experiences with the dolphins etc… really put us off. These are wild creatures and yet as we walked past (unavoidable) we watched a large group of people in the enclosures with them petting and then riding their noses.
This seemed completely unnecessary and cruel to the animals. Especially when the looked at the size of the pools.
A bonus was that unlike much of the coast when we visited there was no seaweed and the beaches in the inlet were clear.

I have been to Xel-Ha 4 times and I plan on going back every year that I return to Mexico. I’m 35 years old and do not have kids, If that says anything about the all-ages friendliness of this place. My boyfriend is 37 and this last trip was his first to Xel-Ha. 8 months later and he STILL talks about it! In fact, he suggests it to complete strangers all the time, whether it’s relevant to the convo or not. He cant wait to go back on our next trip coming up.
The park is beautifully maintained. The food options are great. The drinks are included and are pretty decent. Although I don’t drink much, so I’m sure if my review counts for much on that.
Snorkel gear is also included on this deal. I usually bring my own mask and snorkel, but I use their fins. There’s nothing wrong with their masks though, I just have a high end mask that fits my face like it was molded for it. So totally up to you.
You don’t have to wear shoes while walking around here, but maybe a pair of water socks would help in some of the areas. Mostly, we just go in naked feet.
The only highly recommended suggestion I can make, if you go on the lazy river, WEAR FLIPPERS!!! There’s quite a current when exiting the river and you’ll just get stuck, flippers will be needed. You can thank me later for this little tiper-oony.
I wish the extra adventures there weren’t so expensive, but I will say that the sting ray encounter was worth every single penny they took from us. The girl who was educating us about the creatures KNEW HER STUFF!! She had a very personal bond formed with each of them and it was obvious. They don’t just have them swim all over you, they actually teach you about them and it was AMAZING! I’ll probably pay for it again. It was actually the highlight of my whole trip! The whole encounter was about 45 minutes, I think. Just so you can plan ahead for that time. And book it right when you get there.
Oh!! And they added a SUPER rad water slide! The view from the top is OUTSTANDING! The ride down is sooo much fun! I wish you could bring your camera/GoPro up though.
Basically, if you’re not sure, or riding the fence about it, just GO. I don’t think you’ll regret it. Unless you just don’t enjoy having fun. In that case, you’ll hate every second you spend there. But really, It’s well worth the money.
Looking forward to my FIFTH, and certainly not last trip to Xel-Ha!

Had a wonderful day out at this beautiful location in Mexico. Me & my partner had a lovely day, activities were great, the fish we saw were unbelievable & staff couldn’t have been better! I would 100% come back to Xel-Ha when I next visit Mexico. Well worth the 2 hour trip from Cancun 🙂 thank you Xel-Ha for a fantastic day out!

Whilst on holiday at the Sandos Beach Resort we booked a day trip through a travel rep to Xel-Ha. The booking process was easy enough and we were collected early in the morning so that we could maximise our day at Xel-Ha. It’s pricey, around £400 for our family but this did include transfers, entrance and the all inclusive offering whilst there for the day.
A number of activities are free to do and we absolutely loved snorkelling around the huge outlet after the lazy river. There’s lots of zip wires, rope swims and cliff diving. You can also venture on the huge light tower slide all for free.
There’s lots of wildlife around and we really enjoyed venturing around the area discovering little hidden gems such as the underwater caves and rivers.
On a sour note, I do have grave reservations about the paid activities and, in particular, the dolphin experience. The dolphins are kept in small enclosures and visitors pay to be pulled along and have time with them. Had we been made fully aware of this before we booked we may have changed our mind about visiting Xel-Ha. It’s such a shame as it looks like they do some great conservation work in other areas and have a manatee breeding programme. It’s a real juxtaposition and we did feel sad as we walked passed the dolphin area. I am not convinced or persuaded by any excuse about keeping them in captivity and documentaries such as Blackfish highlight the plight of these beautiful creatures who deserve to be in the wild. For anyone interested knowing more I’d recommend they search “empty the tanks” to learn more.
Aside from this, Xel-Ha was an amazing experience and I’d like to see them lose the dolphins to make it even more better.
