This excursion is for the physically fit and the love of strenuous water activities. I did the lazy river activity and it was everything but lazy!! Definitely must know how to swim and have strong legs to propel the tubes! Overall, it was my first trip and last! I’m too old for this kind of excitement! Food and drinks were excellent!

We visited Xal-Ha in August 2019 as a group of 17 adults all aged 23-65. Myself and my husband had visited Xal-Ha previously in 2016 and absolutely loved it so decided to return with all of our family. The park itself is stunning you can easily spend a full day there and there are many activities for the full family to enjoy HOWEVER..
This year we noticed the introduction of a new waterslide within the park this had not been there on a previous visit so we was very excited to give the slide ago. The slide has two options are slow slide and a fast slide the majority of our group decided to go on the fast slide. When it got to my turn on the slide everything went downhill QUICK!
Around halfway down I could feel myself picking up a lot of speed to the point where the waterslide actually flipped me onto my stomach and then flipped me back onto my back. I was absolutely petrified of coming over the edge of the slide as the slide wasn’t enclosed. A little further down water then started smashing in my face and my ears at this point I started to drown within the slide. I became disorientated due to the water the speed and the fact this slide was flipping me from back to front at this point I didn’t realise I had exited the slide at the bottom into the pool but I couldn’t swim to get above the water as the water from the slide was pouring back in on top of me pushing me further under. I honestly thought that I was going to completely drown. To the lifeguard and spectators it looked like a matter of seconds but to me in was way longer because what they didn’t realise was what had happened inside the slide. I felt an arm drag me up to find it was the lifeguard, he was asking if I was okay to which I was telling him I wasn’t. At this point another man came down the slide which nearly went into it myself and the lifeguard. My family were extremely distressed and concerned and explained that the man previous to me had just come down the slide in the same way. If it wasn’t for the lifeguards being on hand I dread to think what could have happened. After reading a few reviews on here I thought I should share my experience as it seems it is not just myself that this has happened to. This post is not to say “don’t use the slide” but just be really careful and make sure you understand just how quick and dangerous it can be
Don’t let this put you off Xal-Ha as a whole as the park is simply breath taking. There is so much to do you wouldn’t even need to go on the slide if you didn’t want to. Food and drinks were also great. Make sure to take some biodegradable suncream as it is an eco park. If you don’t or forget the staff are on hand to provide you with some but we felt you got such a small amount for the amount of time you were there and no choice of SPF factor. You can buy it over there but it is very expensive in comparison to what you can get it for at home. I would return again to Xal-Ha but would defiantly give the water slides a miss!

Honestly, not sure if my boyfriend and I are debbie downers but we were not impressed. I will start by saying we paid $125 canadian each with our exchange rate plus 20$ US each way for taxi so it ended up being an expensive trip. We aren’t impressed because we didnt see much. We snorkelled quite a bit of the area and we felt like we saw more marine life snorkelling on the beach at our hotel than we did there. We saw one sting ray, and the same fish over and over again. that is all. The lazy river was cool, but tainted by a group who were incredibly loud and held the entire group up. My suggestion is try and be the last people out of your group to float. The ziplining, my god Ive never experienced anything more lame. Anything extra we wanted to do was an extra 40usd at minimum. We found this place really wanted to milk you for your money for mediocre experience. Would not recommend and would not go back. Food was good.

My uncle visited the park a couple of years ago and absolutely loved his experience however I felt ours was OVER PRICED. I also want to say the we visited x-plor last year and it was WAY better value for money!!
I want to underline, do not get sucked in to the advertisement of the park. Each activity that sounds amazing is on average an extra $60 per person on top of the $130 park entry fee.
The park itself was okay, food and drink was good! However again I felt that you should get a lot more for your money than what was on offer to you. $130 is NOT CHEAP.
Our day began with videos on the bus of all the activities that the park has to offer which you can imagine we were excited to get stuck in.. however that was not the case.
Once we arrived at the park we were then told that you had to pay extra, a lot extra!
The $130 gets you snorkelling, zip-lining in to the water, the underground cenote, water slide, jungle walk and food//drink.
The snorkelling was way below standard, the water was horrific due to sun cream and pollution. If you want to snorkel book an excursion out at sea.
I want to underline here that one of the activities that is priced is the sting-ray experience. The sting ray experience is basically feeding and petting the sting ray however we soon learned that the sting rays are free they come and visit the park for food which they are plied with ALL day so they can charge extra for the “sting ray experience”. Yet if you snorkel around the area you can get your own sting ray experience as they are LITERALLY below you swimming around BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT IN AN ENCLOSED AREA.
Because we had booked the park entry for the entire day we felt that in order to get the most out of the day we would do one of the activities so we swam with dolphins. The experience itself was wonderful and we were given discount on the experience, in fact it was the cheapest out of the priced activities. However once finished we were taken to our photos which again was CRAZILY over priced $40 for one photo, $150 for 10 and $250 for all of them. My boyfriend and myself were considering not paying for the photographs which would have been a shame because I like to capture memories. Once they realised we were not gonna pay full price for the photos they began to come down in price. We ended up with all the photographs for $80. SO DO NOT PAY FULL PRICE.
I would say before snorkelling walk around the park in the morning visit the places you can go for free and see what is on offer that day for the activities not included in the park entry fee. I would also advise to take mosquito spray as they are pretty bad in the park.
We made the day what it was and got on with it. I would not recommend and we certainly won’t be visiting again.

This was our second visit to Xel Ha, albeit the last time was way back in 2004.
Overall we had a lovely time. The kids especially enjoyed snorkelling, the lazy river and jumping from the ziplines.
I don’t like water and swimming (so why go to Xel Ha I hear you say), well because it is still a lovely place to visit and I enjoyed walking around taking in the lovely scenery and watching the kids have fun.
I didn’t particularly rate the breakfast food on offer. The restaurant was super crowded and busy and the choices on offer were somewhat limited in my opinion. Lunch was OK. I was a bit disappointed with the drinks choices, but this is only a minor irk.
What I felt was lacking from a food perspective was the availability of other snacks, such as chips, pretzels etc, which we are used to having all inclusive access to in other similar parks we have visited in the past – but again a minor niggle.
Whilst we did have a lovely day, and did enjoy ourselves, and we know all tourist attractions have inflated prices, we did think the cost we paid was a bit steep – again, especially compared to other similar parks we have visited elsewhere. The cost alone would put us off ever visiting again.
However, if you love the water, snorkelling and the outdoors, you will love this place.
