This was my second trip to Xcaret with my first 10 years ago. We purchased our tickets online using a MasterCard as there was a 25% admission discount promotion with that particular card. I opted for Xcaret plus which adds lockers, snorkel equipment, and a buffet lunch at one of several restaurants. We added the primo dolphin experience for significant extra $$ for our 2 kids who loved the experience. Beware that Xcaret has tons of add ons and one could easily spend large sums of money rapidly if not careful. The kids loved swimming with the dolphins but I found the $300 price tag for the photo package taken by their photographer a bit annoying given the high price of the activity to begin with.

The park is a nature center/eco park and is beautiful. The grounds are well kept and very pleasant to walk. We loved the 2 lazy rivers and swam them both. The animal reserves, butterfly sanctuary, aquarium, and aviary were all worth the time. We did not attend any of the shows as the day flew by with all the other activities despite arriving less than 30 minutes after park opening. We did not stay for the dinner and Mexican Show as we were ready to go by 6 PM.

The buffet lunch was better than I expected and more than satisfactory. We ate in a tree house like restaurant overlooking the water. Relaxing and peaceful.

On the way out we went up the tower to get a view of the whole peninsula which was also quite fun.

Xcaret is a great day but plan your time well so as not to miss any of the great activities included. You really do not need to purchase any of the “special” activities to have a terrific time. The price tag of most of these offerings is not really worth the expense. Our kids were dying to swim with the dolphins so I sprang for that.

We opted to take cabs to and from the park as the park transport would have required multiple stops along the way and would have cost more than double the cab fare for our party of 4. Cabs were immediately available in the parking lot at the park exit.

This activity is a must if you are on the Riviera Maya

I booked online to XCaret Park, but I didn’t look closely at the details. As it turned out, when I booked with Trip Advisor it DID NOT include transportation. It cost me $35 each way to get there from Playa Del Carmen. It was super overpriced anyway, and adding the additional taxi made it just so expensive. The food was great at the park. We had the buffet. It’s definitely not worth the price they charge. I wouldn’t recommend it – especially is you’re on a budget. All of the fun stuff costs extra. If you decide to go… do NOT book here!!

This was the first time I ever traveled to Mexico, I went with my family and I asked in the reception of the hotel I was staying in if they could recommend me a water park and without thinking twice they said XCARET. According to Mexicans it is a place like Disney World to them but in my opinion this has more culture than an amusement park. This is a theme park with a bit of flora and fauna in the region and all the cultural and musical history. One the best parts in this parks is that you can swim with dolphins you can also visit the aquarium that is worth it and thebutterfly garden that was amazing.
