Visit!!!…If you come from the US or France, Japan, and have ever experienced the wonder of a Disney park you may go to Xcaret park and enjoy it immensely. It’s a place filled with cultural experiences that include music, food, traditions, history. There are live animals, small inlets with beaches, jungle sections, Mayan ruins. Truly there’s something for everyone. It is a big park and if you want to experience it fully then plan to visit it at least in the expand of three days. The entrance tickets are not cheap, at least $100 per person, though children younger than 5 get in free. There are discounts (using Mastercard, buying tickets well in advance, etc) but it is still expensive. I would suggest staying at hotel Xcaret and taking advantage of the fact that it’s right next door, walking distance l, and the entrance ticket is included in the room rate, plus you can come and go as you please. On last thing, stay and watch Mexico Espectacular, a daily show that covers mexican history, Mayan to present, with lots of music. It is truly espectacular.

Absolutely an amazing experience from the river tours, cenotes, archeological sites, zoo, aquarium, beachfront and all of the food options, you can’t go wrong. I can’t wait to go back again and bring lots of friends to experience this unique park.

We left as soon as we had done the cave rivers – it was so horribly disgusting that it soured our entire experience and we literally couldn’t wait to leave. While Xcaret might be okay during normal circumstances, we felt it was criminally negligent to expose guests to covid the way they did today with us.
To be clear, we are NOT germaphobes or hypochondriacs. Throughout covid, we’ve been out and about, going to grocery stores, our kids are in in-person school, and we chose to fly to Cancun. So for us to be horrified by our Xcaret experience underscores just how incredibly unsanitary and unsafe we found the experience to be. I would absolutely not recommend anyone go to this theme park until covid is under control.
1. The place was MOBBED. While they said it was at 30% capacity, if that were indeed true, then all 30% were at the same 2-3 parts of the theme park, standing shoulder to shoulder, crowded into small places and small footpaths. There was no staff helping crowd control, helping to usher people along to create breathing space, to prevent people from entering already-crowded spaces. Also we should point out that every agent we spoke to on our many booking calls told us the park would be at 30% capacity during the date of our visit. Yet the manager to whom we complained today showed us on his app that they had 3700 visitors out of 9000 capacity. By my math, that’s 41%. And while the exact number may not be that important, the problem here is that they’re not adhering to a stated capacity constraint, which makes me wonder if they’re taking any safety protocols seriously.
2. There was NO facemask enforcement. At least half the guests were unmasked, if not more. People were breathing all over me the entire time. At least I felt a bit better with my own mask on, but it was shocking and disgusting how many visitors didn’t care about mask wearing, and the staff were certainly not encouraging them to do so.
3. The cave rivers – the supposed highlight of the experience – had NO crowd control. They packed the guests into the river like sardines, didn’t bother spacing them out at any point, told them NOT to wear masks… and the worst part is that the caves/tunnels have no ventilation. The air inside is warm, moist and stagnant. Imagine being in those pools with no air moving, packed with so many swimmers that you’re bumping into them while you swim, unable to get even 3 feet of distance between each other, feeling and smelling their breaths all over your exposed face. The least Xcaret could do is have some industrial fans to push the air through the caves during this pandemic. But no. My family and I escaped at our first opportunity, but reality is that with hundreds of people in the cave at any time, if any person had covid, the likelihood that hundreds of us were infected is quite high, including during our 15 minutes in the tunnels.
In terms of safety, the park did take temperatures before entering the park and they had hand sanitizer everywhere. But that’s little consolation after the disgusting, criminally negligent exposure we endured. I’ll update this post in a few days if we did indeed get covid.
What an AWFUL experience.

Visited Xcaret last week, it was a wonderful experience to my husband and I.
We enjoyed swimming in the underground river the most and reckoned that we won’t find any other places in anywhere of the world that offers such a wonderful cultural adventures experience.
We had our lunch at the Peninsula. The food was so good and fresh and server were very helpful and attentive.
We had also booked the Spectacular dinner package. Thanks to Fernanda at the ticketing counter managed to get us the last two seats of the day (feel so blessed). She is so helpful and patience in explaining all the information about the park and the dinner details to us.
The night show is a must, we enjoyed it much together with our wonderful dinner. I would like to mention our server Ricardo on that night, his service was outstanding and very friendly.
We will visit again during our next visit to Cancún.
