Xcaret is bit of a mixed bag: is it a theme park, a zoo, a botanical gardens or a true tourist trap designed to take your money? I would say it is the last. You have possibly visited better theme parks (e.g. Disney), better zoos (nearly all zoos are better but go to Singapore for the best), better botanical gardens (again Singapore takes the lead here).
HOWEVER what is unique in this place: the water based activities. I would recommend you to concentrate on those and skip the rest.
The park is huge and the meandering pathways get you lost easily (and make you walk far longer that would be necessary).
Here are my tips for a unique experience:
1. Arrive early – even before the park opens (before 8:30) or around 11 o’clock. Between 9 and 10.30 the lines are long to get in with barely no social distancing (you have to wear a mask at all times inside the park, though).
2. Do not rent a locker at the entrance. If you really need one head down the waterfront. They told me that the only lockers are at the entrance but that was not true.
3. The underground rivers are a must to do thing. I liked the Maya better that the Blue. The Blue is mostly in darkness but Maya has many amazing canyons in open air – makes amazing pictures or videos. Manatee river was closed. In November 2020 you could float down the water with not many people around when you did it after 1 o’clock in the afternoon.
4. You do not need to rent a locker for the rivers. What they do is very neat service and it is FREE. Pack you things to a large bag. They seal it and bring from the river entrance to where you exit the water. All rivers leave for the same spot and arrive in the same place at the oceanfront.
5. The beach area is nice with plenty of chairs and the water is crystal clear. Bring you snorkel and fins (or rent those if you don’t have your own. Mind though that at the rental cost you could buy your own (but not at the Xcaret shops).
7. Swimming with sharks or dolphins are of course at extra cost and I wish all places would stop this animal cruelty. Also speed boat rides are extra as one would expect.
Hence, my recommendation: concentrate on water activities and skip the rest. You could easily spend 7 hours just on these activities and not having to pay extra for the already high entrance fee. I do not think the PLUS package is worth it. You can survive the time at the park without eating in their overpriced restaurants (that are very many).

My family and I visited Xcaret park on Nov 5th. We had a blast checking out the biggest bird sanctuary we have ever seen. My four little kids also loved the pumas and jaguars. We visited the big turtles which were fun to watch. We also relaxed at their beautiful lagoon and floated down the under ground rivers We only had time to see 70% of the park. We left at 2:30 to rest and came back to see the show in the evening. I liked the first half of the show but the 2nd half seemed very repetitive and we left about 20 minutes early as we were very tired. It was a great fun day and we would recommend it to any family like ours.

Xcaret is such a beautiful park! I really enjoyed the swimming in the river. It was such a neat experience that you can do with your children. The shows are amazing and you cannot miss the night show. In the night show they tell the story of Mexico. Overall it was a very impressive park that I high recommend to do when in Cancun.

My family and I visited Xcaret park during November 2020. The overall experience was amazing – staff was great. I highly recommend the park to anyone who wants to enjoy nature and a lot of walking. The show at night is top notch – incredible – one of a kind.
I do recommend putting aside at least $1k USD to have a full experience. Entrance with food, photo package, activity not included in package and dinner during the show.
