PROS:
1) Transportation: We booked our transportation directly through the Xcaret website. They arrived right on time to our resort to get us. Our tour guide on the bus was fantastic! He spoke English and Spanish and made sure everyone was oriented to the park before we arrived. Bus was large and comfortable. They were seating people in every other row.
2) Website Customer Service: I had difficulty booking the photo package and the optional activities with our Xcaret Total Admission package online. I emailed customer service and they sent me a personal invoice within a couple hours. They were friendly, prompt, and helpful.
3) Swimming w/ Nurse Sharks: This was the best experience we had in the park. The staff loved their job and were very enthusiastic about the sharks and our experience. It was a lot of fun and we had a significant amount of time in the water with them.
4) Food @ La Cocina: Very good! I highly recommend eating here with your meal ticket. The mariachi band also played while we were eating so it was almost like lunch with a show.
5) There are a lot of pretty sites within the park to see and explore
6) Photo package: Buy it! There are tons of places to scan your wristband and take a photo. It was so fun getting those photos the next day!
CONS:
1) Price: It is VERY expensive for the what you get. In my opinion, the optional activities are what make the park fun and they are all an added expense.
2) Transportation: I know I listed this as a pro but it was also a con. The con part is that the bus only leaves the park and takes you back to your resort at two times during the day (4:45pm or 9:45pm). We didn’t want to be there at almost 10pm at night so opted to take the 4:45pm bus back to our resort. This meant we were really in a rush and didn’t get to experience many parts of the park.
3) Crowded: The underground river was way too crowded when we floated down. We were all back to back which took away from the experience.
4) Rude Staff Members: We ran into a couple rude staff members throughout the day. Both times we were asking for directions, and they just pointed in a direction and seemed annoyed that we asked. Both times the directions were completely wrong and we almost missed one of our optional excursions because of it. We don’t speak Spanish but they also didn’t want to take the time to try and understand what we were asking in English. If you speak Spanish, you are golden. If you don’t, just follow the colors on the cement and use a map. The staff do not want to help.
We also did the Sea Trek experience while we were there. Our group was split 50/50 on the excursion so I am not putting as a pro or a con. I personally felt it was a waste of money. The fish and sting rays are only in one part of the walk. We only saw them when the divers were feeding them food. They had a photographer take photos of us under the water and there is not one single fish in the photo. Most of the time you are just walking and holding onto the rail so the current doesn’t knock you over. It also made me feel a little panicked being underwater breathing air in that helmet 20 feet down. However, my sister and her husband really liked the experience despite the lack of fish that we saw. If you are on the fence about the different optional activities, I would recommend you choose the sharks or dolphins over Sea Trek.

The Partially underground River was fun, cold at first but you get used to it. Take your time and plan and spending the whole day there, they have a few great beach areas so don’t miss that part. Very nice sight seeing in an exotic park with different attractions so you will be walking a lot, take good walking shoes, they have lockers so you want to get one because you’ll want to get wet at sometime so you’ll need a swim suit. They have a wonderful horse show in the early evening with Mariachis , I missed that but I heard it was wonderful.

This is an unforgettable experience if you travel to Cancun/Playa del Carmen/Tulum. My wife and I had too much fun in all the water & land activities.

Definitly recommend this one, you want to the de Xcaret Black package, with the underground river experience. We liked everything here, summerize Mexico’s wildlife and nature in a 1 day trip 🙂
