    Short version
    – 12hr trip, approximately 3hrs each way including collections and drop offs. 6hrs at location.
    – 30USD chichen itza entrance fee is extra cost and collected in cash at start of trip.
    – Great guide, very informative and friendly.
    – Good transport and facilities (air con, toilet and water on bus)
    – Trip done in the correct order. Chichen Itza – Cenote (inc lunch) – Valladolid.
    – Mask wearing currently mandatory but not overly enforced.
    – Nice lunch but not until appx 3pm, so bring snacks/food or make time to buy at chichen itza appx 12pm.
    – Some walking required, manageable for people with difficulty walking, but not suitable for wheelchairs. Lots of steep steps at cenote.
    – Swimming kit and towel required.
    – Cash needed for entrance fee, tips, drinks, life jacket and locker hire.
    – Charge to take cameras into chichen itza (small charge for GoPro but 30USD for bigger camera). No charge for phone cameras.

    Long version
Great trip around 12hrs from start to finish. We were collected from our resort at 7:30am as we were the first to board the bus. The transport was a comfortable, air conditioned coach (with an on board toilet) and wasn’t too full of people, so the group size was good for a tour.

Our guide was Ruth. She was great. Very polite and helpful. She was very easy going and would give you the option to do what you wanted at each place. All that she required was that people returned to the bus on time, so as not to hold up the other members of the tour (it’s a long day already). She gave all information in both English and Spanish to accommodate all guests. Her English was good and very understandable.

There is a lot of information given on a tour like this which can get boring, but this was not the case. Ruth was very informative but kept us interested from start to finish. She even explained how to read our Mayan long date (like a cosmological birth certificate) that we bought as a souvenir. It can be hard to hear a tour guide at the destinations, especially when it’s busy but Ruth did a good job of finding spaces to talk to us and make herself heard.

There was plenty of water provided to us by the tour operator and a good explanation of when/where we could get food/drink and use toilets. The buffet lunch at the cenote was nice and the drinks, although not included, were cheap with a good range of alcoholic and non alcoholic options. Ruth also gave us good tips/recommendations to buy things such as the local tequila liquors in Valladolid.

Most, if not all of the shops/vendors on the trip accepted card payments, but it’s good to have cash on you for tips etc. The souvenir vendors, like all tourist vendors in the region give you a high price to start with but will haggle and you can usually get them down to less than half of the original price, if not less.

The only thing I would change about this tour is to have some more time in each location. However I understand why this is not the case as the day is long enough already.

    Locations:

Cichen Itza – We had 2hrs here. An hour of guided tour and an hour to walk around taking photos and buying gifts etc. Ruth gave each person the option to have their own free time for the full 2hrs if they wish. But nobody did, and for good reason, the tour was very interesting. Mask wearing is still currently mandatory, but once you’re through the entrance building most people take them off. The tour guides do their job and ask you to wear them at the start but they don’t harass you about it.

Cenote – We had 2hrs here also. It’s a good size cenote in a pretty setting. Good facilities and polite/helpful staff. Ruth in formed us that we were the first group there and recommended that we swim first and eat second. This was a very good recommendation as it filled up considerably by the time we got out of the water to go for lunch. Life jackets and lockers are an extra cost, but we only paid 150mxn for 2 life jackets and 1 locker. Unfortunately life jackets are mandatory, which I think is overkill and spoils the swim slightly as you can’t dive down to see more of the little black fish that swim in the water. But they do make it easy to relax, float on the surface and take in the view. There is a good platform to jump from and steps to just walk into the water so the choice is yours. Lunch is nice, cooked Mexican buffet food. Drinks are extra cost but cheap. Tips are also extra.

Valladolid – We had 30mins here. Just enough time to look around the central square of the pretty colonial town. Ruth recommended a good place to buy authentic local tequila and tequila liquors (with a tasting demonstration). There’s also opportunity for street food and souvenirs, if you can manage it all in 30 minutes.

This tour was excellent! Great for families, friends, or even a romantic getaway. Martin, Cesar, and Alfredo did a wonderful job guiding us through the tour. Very informative and funny. They also did a great job at keeping everyone together and made amazing recommendations for each stop. We learned so much about the pyramid and ruins at Chichen-Itza. We definitely wouldn’t have been able to fully appreciate its beauty without the thorough explanation. The stop at the Cenote was a blast! Definitely make the plunge into its healing, cooling water while enjoying the beautiful scenery. You can also swim under the waterfall. The buffet was delicious. Try the famous Mexican flan! Lastly, at the final stop, we got to try some authentic tequila (vanilla, chocolate, honey, mezcal). Delicious! We recommend this tour for everyone!

  3. Alex

Ruth was our tour guide and she did a great job explaining the Mayan culture! Be prepared for A LOT of sun at Chichen Itza, there isn’t much shade. The cenote afterwards was a great way to cool off though! The trip is very long, but would definitely recommend this trip.

  4. Chris

Amazing trip to a Wonder of the World. Cooling off in the Cenote was key after the hot sun at Chichen Itza. Thanks Ruth for giving us all of the information as we visited the sites. Roger did a great job driving us as we were able to relax in a comfortable bus. If you visit Cancun don’t pass by this opportunity.

  5. Ciaran C

This was a great experience of visiting Chichen Itza which was stunning Mayan Pyramids and loads of stalls with great quality items.
The Cenote was an amazing experience with incredible views and water, finished off with amazing foods at the buffet.
We then finished with a visit to a traditional Mayan town with some tequila tasting!
Our guide Edwin was great and very informative across the whole day and our great driver Ilias.
    Higher recommend!
