The tour guides (Martin & Pastor) were very accommodating and appears to be extremely knowledgeable about the history of Chichen Itza. It was really fun listening to different stories and appreciate the culture of the Mayans. It was also nice when they showed a very unique souvenir option which was the Mayan birth certificate which was hand-painted. All throughout the trip, I appreciate Martin and Pastor’s friendliness and always ready to answer questions. Miguel, the driver, was also very professional and we’ve felt safe all throughout the trip. The cenote was a very nice aspect in the itinerary as well the brief visit to the city of Valladolid. I feel like 30 mins would be a little short though to properly explore the colonial city. Overall, it was one of the best experience I had in my life and have no regrets booking with Sat Mexico. They were really a great group and would highly recommend this tour to all my family and friends.

We had the best experience ever on the Chichen-Itza day trip. Our guides Norma and Miguel were absolutely incredible in every way and made it an experience we will never forget. It meant a lot to us that the tour is led by indigenous Mayan people themselves. Norma is a true professional and historical expert. She speaks perfect English, was extremely helpful and outgoing, and just such a treasure in every way. Her passion for her culture and history, as well as sharing her personal story and even teaching us about Mayan language, was truly special and touching. We had an awesome day visiting the ruins and learning SO much about the incredible history. There is a guided tour portion and then free time to take pictures, explore and shop. After this, we headed to visit a cenote for swimming and lunch buffet. The food was decent. Finally we stopped by Valladolid which was touristy but very interesting to see a colonial town, in contrast from the other parts of Yucatán.
A few tips: Chichen-Itza is stunning but it’s PACKED with tourists and extremely hot so be prepared with sunscreen, bug spray, a hat, sunglasses and face mask. We wore flip flops and it’s a bit dusty walking around but wasn’t a problem at all since it’s not much walking overall. Be sure to also bring cash to buy some souvenirs, for your Chichen-Itza entry fee, and please be sure to tip your guides and driver, since they work so hard to take good care of you. Also no issues with pick up and drop off. They did their best to make it as smooth as possible.
The ride there and back is pretty long, and overall it’s quite a long day. But it’s so worth it. The bus is extremely comfortable. We felt very safe and in good hands the whole time. This is an unforgettable, must-see experience! I cannot recommend it enough. I would give this 100 stars if I could.

  4. AnneH

We had a great day with Martin as our guide and Alfredo as our driver. Martin shared his knowledge of all the sites. Chichen itza was beautiful and the Cenotes were incredible!

  5. Renaw

Amazing tour with our guide Pastor and driver Ivan. The drive was incredibly comfortable with air conditioning, a restroom in the back, and cushioned reclining seats, which helped with catching up on some rest on this three hour journey to Chichen Itza. Ivan is excellent on the road and made us feel safe. Pastor kept us informed and entertained with details about Mayan culture (he’s part Mayan and spoke a lot from first hand knowledge, including teaching us a few phrases to use with the Yucatán Mayan people). There was no breakfast and no stops along the way, so bring a snack or make sure you eat before the trip if this may be problematic for you. Everything was well-organized and timely. We first stopped at Chichen Itza and toured for about an hour learning more of its history and rich culture. Professional cameras are not allowed, while semi-professional cameras (ie. GoPros) are, but you have to pay a small fee for licensing their images (or something like that). You also have to pay to enter, but your guide will manage it — he collected the money once we were on board. It is VERY hot and open with little to no shaded areas, so bring sun protection as necessary. The tour was definitely needed because otherwise you’re just looking at a bunch of stones with carvings and don’t understand the significance of how intelligent this civilization is — engineering geniuses! We were given an hour to explore the area on our own. There are many vendors around the actual site and if you speak Spanish, they’ll lower the price, but if you speak Mayan — it’ll practically be free (or so was the joke). Be prepared to either play the bargaining game or just say no a ton. We stopped at a cenote (a natural sinkhole / cave) for a swim. There are small fish in there so bring goggles if you’d like to see them better. There’s a small fee for renting a mandatory life jacket and also a small fee for renting lockers. You have to rinse off in a shower before getting in the water as they are trying to preserve the water and keep it as free from chemicals as possible. They also allow you to jump from a certain point into the water which was fun to do / watch. The recommendation was to swim first and then eat at the buffet. The food was authentic Mayan food and sufficient. You’ll have to pay for the beverages (non-alcoholic and alcoholic), which was a little bit annoying (this should’ve been included in the package). Finally, we stopped at an old colonial city called Villadolid. We got to taste some tequila and then went for some delicious ice cream (strawberries and cream is my recommendation), and then we just walked around to sight see a tiny bit before heading back on our three hour ride to Cancun. We’re projected to get there by 6:30/7 PM, so it’s definitely a long day.
